Writers out there, do you like talking about your work in progress? Or do you stay schtum till it`s finished? This is a picture of the research for my current novel.
People often ask me: How`s the book going? It`s a big question with a complicated answer. But a reasonable question, since a book will occupy a large chunk of my headspace for several years.
My answers vary. Sometimes I feel like talking about it, sometimes I don`t. Sometimes I say, `Good` and that`s true, sometimes it isn`t. I do share the essence of the idea and who the main characters are, and I do talk about my research process. Just not on social media. You never know if anyone`s listening and that feels a bit precarious for something so close to my heart, so deep in my head.
The place I do share about it is in my newsletter. It comes out once a month and always feels like it lands with people who are genuinely interested. Many subscribers write back – and I always reply. (A little slowly, sometimes, I admit.) I also share a lot of photos, especially of the beautiful Cairngorms where I live, and subscribers get early-bird event bookings and wee discounts from time to time.
So, there`s a newsletter coming out in a few days. Sign up by Friday 8th to receive the latest and to learn how I`m navigating the complexities of novel structure. And a whole lot more.
Your companionship in this journey will mean the world to me. Link in comments or easy to find on my website: MerrynGlover.com
Thank you!
