Fri 16th May: Author Talk at the Jesmond Festival, Newcastle

“Whose Story is This, Anyway?” Join Merryn Glover as she shares about the different points of view in her two novels – A House Called Askival and Of Stone and Sky – and her non-fiction book, The Hidden Fires: A Cairngorms Journey with Nan Shepherd. Her talk will include images from the settings of her work across India, Nepal and Scotland, as well as audience Q&A. £10 entry, including wine and nibbles, with time to get books signed and chat with other reading enthusiasts from across the city.

Online Launch ‘A House Called Askival’ Audiobook

We would love your company for this exciting online event celebrating the release of the first audiobook version of Merryn Glover’s critically acclaimed novel.

Produced to mark the 10th anniversary of the orginal publication, the audiobook has been recorded in Delhi by Indian actress, Shena Gamat.

The launch event will include:

  • Merryn and Shena in conversation with Kathy Hoffmann, their former teacher from Woodstock School in the Indian hill station of Mussoorie where the novel is set
  • Excerpts of the newly recorded audiobook
  • Film of Indian classical music played by Chris Hale, fellow graduate of Woodstock School
  • Q&A with both Merryn and Shena
  • The opportunity to wear Indian clothes and eat Indian food – provided by you!

A morning of outdoor creative writing activities as part of the week-long programme of Neale James’ Photowalk reatreat. The retreat is repeated over two weeks.

29th Aug: Rewilding Nation and Paperboats: film screening and writing workshop

The film is Why Not Scotland and the workshop will be led by me, enabling participants to share feelings about the climate and biodiversity crisis and write letters of action and hope.

The event is part of the Scottish Rewilding Alliance’s #RewildingNation campaign, calling for Scotland to declare itself the world’s first Rewilding Nation, with nature flourishing across 30% of our land and seas.

2nd August: Drama from Woodstock to Askival

I will be in conversation with Shena Gamat, the Indian actress who is recording the audiobook of A House Called Askival. We’ll be joined by David Weidman, our drama teacher from the school we both attended in the Himalayan hillstation that is the setting for my novel.
