Proof! The word usually means ‘evidence’ but in publishing, it’s the copy produced as soon as the text is finalised and edited and is ready for sending to reviewers and potential overseas publishers. I can’t tell you how relieved and excited I am to announce that the ‘proof’ of my latest novel has just landed!
And it sure is evidence. Evidence of exactly two-and-half years of dreaming, researching, drafting, reading, interviewing, remembering, hoping, re-writing, doubting, believing, agonising, laughing and crying. (Truly, madly, deeply.)
