A stunning day gazing at birds on a Wader ID course with Speyside Wildlife. The Moray Coast is perfect ground for these delightful, quirky little creatures, scuttling and bobbing about, poking their long beaks into everything, taking off in glittering flocks, or just standing around on one leg, head tucked back under feathers having a snooze! I could have watched them all day. Oh… I guess I did.
For the nerds, we saw sanderling, dunlin, purple sandpiper, ringed plover, bar tailed godwit, redshank, curlew, turnstone, oystercatcher, lapwing and even a little egret! But not a knot in sight…
There were also plenty of ducks: mallards, wigeon, teal, eider, long-tailed & shellduck: geese: greylag, pink-footed and barnacle; seabirds: shag, gannet, guillemot and gulls; plus skylarks and brown hares.
(Sorry I don`t have a good enough camera for the close-ups!)
