I am so thrilled to share that I have been shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award with Cambridge University! I`ve been busting to tell you since I found out in early July, so now I can finally run around in circles like a Muppet and yell Yaaaaaaaaay!
The shortlist was announced this evening on Radio 4`s Front Row, including an interview with me (follow LinkTree in bio), and you can listen to all the five stories read by actors Mon-Fri next week on Radio 4 at 3.30pm (all programmes available on catch-up, too, through BBC iPlayer). They will also be published by Comma Press and made available to schools, with a resource pack.
The announcement of winner and prize-giving will be broadcast live on Front Row from BBC HQ in London on Sept 29th, so I`m fishing out my best Miss Piggy glad rags for the big do. (I know, I know, you won`t be able to see them on the radio…)
My story, Burning Bush, is set in Australia (country of my passport) and centres on an old man, Pete, who lives as a recluse out in a shack, communing only with the animals, until one day, when a letter arrives.
Pete is also one of two central characters in my upcoming novel (title and publication information to be announced soon). So watch this space… there`s an excited Author Muppet looping the loop!
